YOUTH CHORUS

The Youth Chorus is made up of YWD and a few YMD (more are welcome!) who want to use their voices to encourage members. As they say, "the voice does the Buddha's work." There are about 20 members in the Chorus currently, but we want to expand the group to at least 60 members. We are looking forward to working with other youth in the New England, Philadelphia, Upstate NY and CT regions. We welcome anyone who enjoys singing. You don't have to be a professional and it's a great group for those who maybe unsure what else they would like to do. We're currently learning two songs "Thank You Sensei" and "The Future is Now". Many in Body, One in Mind
By Erica Lee/ Sunday, June 18th, 2006 / New York Culture Center

Anyone hovering about the third floor can hear strains of a cheerful melody outside room 302. This is the temporary residence of the Youth Chorus and this melody is the result of hard work put forth by the dynamic duo, Carla Kelly and Susan Moromisato. The Youth Chorus will perform two songs - one that Susan wrote, "Thank You, Sensei," and another called "The Time is Now."

The first part of the rehearsal was a warm-up led by Carla Kelly. Jogging in place to get their diaphragms ready, the singers did the "wake-up shake-up." After additional work on their postures, they kicked off their shoes and were ready to sing.

At this point, Susan took over for the second part of the rehearsal. "Thank You, Sensei" is a song full of appreciation and inspiring lyrics. Susan instructed the Youth Chorus on the finer points of the song and on lengthening and shortening notes.

The Youth Chorus is a diverse group of members with ages ranging from nine to mid-twenties, and truly exemplifies the concept of "many in body, one in mind." Each person has a unique voice, but underneath their differences, the members of the Youth Chorus ultimately strive towards the same goals together: to sing to the best of their abilities, encourage the audience at Lincoln Center, and bring them to their feet.
