Welcome Message

By Atul Sheffey and Michiko Nakamura

Greetings & welcome to the official website dedicated to the momentous Youth Festival to be held on July 16th 2006 at the world famous Lincoln Center in NYC! This youth festival will bring together Buddhist youth from all over the northeast United States to meet and showcase spectacular performances out of the spirit of SGI-USA’s 2006 theme: The Year of Youth and Dynamic Growth. The festival will highlight the youth’s diversity and energy. We will have a wide range of performances including, live music, Brazilian Capoiera, Youth Gymnastics, Latin and African Dance, Chinese Dragon Dance, Korean Drummers, Hip-Hop dance, spoken word, turntable performances, and youth chorus, just to name a few.

The Youth Festival’s theme is It All Begins With Me signifying the youth’s commitment to standing up and being the vanguard in sharing with the world this dynamic Buddhism, dedicated to peace and true happiness. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the poem "To My Beloved Young American Friends –Youthful Bodhisattvas of the Earth”, written by our mentor President Daisaku Ikeda, all of the performances have taken inspiration from the poem and are using it to shape their acts.

SGI President Ikeda states that every person has the right to happiness and to attain Buddhahood as he references founder Nichiren Daishonin’s gosho. (pages 336 & 341). In it, the Daishonin expresses that no matter what the struggle, we must continue on and through that struggle, we grow and become happy. Likewise, President Ikeda wants every person to be strong, wise and happy. Through this festival, every one of us - spectators and performers, has a mission to be strong, wise and happy. So let’s use this Youth Festival as an opportunity to really change our lives and really grow, sharing and showing proof that this Buddhism works. Spectators, performers, Buddhists, people of all faiths, we invite you to not only browse and enjoy this site, we also invite you to come and enjoy the Youth Festival on July 16th. We know that it will be an awakening and life-changing event that you will always treasure.

Sincerely Yours,

Michimiko Nakamura & Atul Sheffey
