SGI-USA NORTHEAST ZONE
YOUTH FESTIVAL July 16, 2006

Welcome to the website for the SGI-USA Northeast Zone Youth Festival! At 1pm on July 16, over 3,000 youth of all ages from all over the Northeastern U.S. will convene at the world-famous Lincoln Center for performing arts in New York City. The festival will celebrate the diversity and energy of the youth division of the SGI-USA and will feature performances by live music bands, Brazilian Capoiera, Youth Gymnastics, Latin and African Dance, Chinese Dragon Dance, Korean Drummers, Hip-Hop dance, spoken word, turntable performances, and youth chorus. Many other groups are working behind the scenes as well to create promotional material, ensure the safety of each participant and audience member and chant for the success of the festival.

The Youth Festival’s theme is “It All Begins with Me” which signifies the youth’s commitment to stand up and be the vanguard in sharing this dynamic Buddhism, dedicated to peace and true happiness. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the poem "To My Beloved Young American Friends –Youthful Bodhisattvas of the Earth”, written by our mentor President Daisaku Ikeda, all of the performances have taken inspiration from the poem and are using it to shape their acts.

The SGI-USA is a lay Buddhist association that promotes world peace and individual happiness based on the teachings of the Buddhism of Nichiren Daishonin. Its goals are to contribute to peace, culture and education. Members of the SGI-USA practice the Buddhism of Nichiren Daishonin for personal happiness and for development of a peaceful society. Toward that end, the SGI engages in various activities to promote peace, culture and education based on Buddhism.

This is a free but ticketed event so you need to reserve a seat to attend. Please contact your local youth leader to reserve a seat for you and your guests. Tickets will be available at 11am on July 16 and Lincoln Center and doors will open at 12:30pm.
